Maginot Line II

This is really great material. I'm not sure who's scripting the border security lines for the House but I would love to lift it untouched for SNL or maybe an old Bob Newhart phone call skit:

"OK, you want to build a 700 mile long fence along the Mexican border to keep illegals out. H-how long is that border anyway? About 2,000 miles? Uh, OK there might be a slight problem there. What kind of problem? I was thinking that people might just go around the end of the fence. All right, so that is a possibility that hadn't been considered? How much will it cost? Either 2 billion or 7 billion dollars; you're not sure. Well, how much of it are you funding in the bill? Zero? Well, I suppose that does eliminate any concerns about over-funding that might arise. And you're planning to conduct a study to see whether it's feasible for the Canadian border, too? Has anyone studied whether it's really feasible for the Mexican border yet? No? Oh, it's self-evident that this is the only way to stop illegal immigration? No, I guess that answers most all of my questions; Oh, by the way, would there happen to be an election anytime soon? No, no just a hunch."

Ah, yes! The postering of the poseurs of Congress. We can all agree that the principal of protecting the integrity of national borders is important - but these half-assed measures do more harm than good.

Don't get me started on the incompetence of the INS - you want to fix immigration - fix that department first.
